Glossary
Visionary™
The Visionary is the person who generates the ideas, holds the big relationships, protects the culture and sees round corners. Usually it is the founder, and usually it is the wrong person to run operations. The seat is real work rather than a polite title, and its output is direction and problems nobody else has noticed yet.
01
The Visionary seat inside EOS®
The Visionary sits at the top of the Accountability Chart™ with the Integrator™ directly below, and the two hold a same page meeting to stay aligned. EOS asks the Visionary to take Rocks like anybody else, which is the usual sticking point, and to bring new ideas to the Issues List before announcing them to the whole company on a Friday.
The pattern this names is common enough to deserve a word. A founder with ten ideas a week is genuinely valuable and genuinely destabilizing, and companies usually cope by learning to ignore most of what they say. Giving the role a definition and a channel keeps the ideas and removes the whiplash from everybody underneath.
Worked example: The founder of a forty-person agency used to announce new services in the Monday all-hands. Staff had learned to wait a fortnight before acting on anything he said. Under the new arrangement he brought three ideas to a monthly session with the general manager. One became a Rock and the other two were dropped in ten minutes.

Integrator
The Integrator is the person who runs the company day to day, holding the leadership team accountable and settling arguments between departments.
02Rocket Fuel
Rocket Fuel is the 2015 book by Gino Wickman and Mark Winters about the pairing of a Visionary with an Integrator, and the shorthand for it.
03Clarity Break™
A Clarity Break is scheduled time away from the business, with a notebook and no phone, that a leader takes for thinking and nothing else.
04Same Page Meeting
A Same Page Meeting is a private session between the Visionary and the Integrator, usually monthly, where the two of them settle disagreements early.
Start with a real question
Not sure which of these you actually need?
Tell us what the leadership team is arguing about. A person replies within one business day with a straight answer, whether that is a book, a tool or an implementer.
A person reads every one.
