Leadership Team

The leadership team in EOS® is the three to seven people who own the major functions and who run the whole system, weekly meeting to annual plan. It is defined by the Accountability Chart™ rather than by title, so it sometimes leaves out a long-serving manager and takes in somebody a level down.

Who is on the leadership team in EOS

This is the group that meets weekly, sets the company Rocks, holds the V/TO® and takes the organizational checkup. EOS keeps it small deliberately, because past about seven people the meeting stops being a working session. Departments below run the same weekly format with their own Scorecards, which is how the system spreads without the top meeting growing.

Who sits in the room is a decision most companies make by seniority and then never revisit. Tying it to the seats on the chart forces a harder question, and it is common for a first Accountability Chart to show that the person running the largest department belongs in the meeting while the founder's first employee does not.

Worked example: A construction supplier had nine people in its management meeting, two of them there because they always had been. Redrawing the chart left five real seats. The four who came off were given their own departmental weekly meetings, and the leadership meeting went from two hours of updates to ninety minutes with an hour of problem solving.
